Land Trust Trails are open one hour before sunrise
and close one hour after SUNSET.

-   Visitors must stay on marked trails.
-   Please leave no trace - carry out what you carry in.
-   Pets are required to be on a leash.
-  
No fires.
-   No camping.
-   No climbing or rappelling.

-   No hunting.
-   No motorized vehicles bikes. 
(However, use of motorized vehicles for maintenance
     and/or specific events may be authorized by the Property Management  Committee chairman or 
     the Executive Director.)

-   No digging or removal of plants.
No horses are allowed on properties (with exception of Wade Mountain.)
-   Properties may not be used by other organizations for fundraising purposes.

 

Wade Mountain Exception

Horses are allowed on Wade Mountain.

 

Three Caves Exception

Credentialed Safety and Rescue Organizations may be granted permission by The Land Trust Executive Director for training exercises but not recreation.  Private and public cave tours must be led by a trained Land Trust Cave Guide.  Private tours must be coordinated through The Land Trust's Marketing Director.  Overnight camping by recognized groups may be authorized by The Land Trust.  All other camping is prohibited.

 

DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEADS

Monte Sano Preserve Bankhead Parking Lot:  From University Drive and Memorial Parkway, follow Pratt Avenue East, through Five Points business district.  Continue through Five Points on Pratt and continue straight as Pratt changes to Bankhead Parkway.  Parking lot is 1/2 mile past Toll Gate Road, on the right.  Access to Bluff Line, Toll Gate, Old Railroad Bed, Fagan Springs and Old Railroad Bed trails.

Wade Mountain Preserve Parking Area:  Drive north on Memorial Parkway, past Alabama A&M University.  Turn left on the first road north of Winchester Highway - Hollow Road.  Turn right onto Spraggins Hollow Road.  Parking lot is on the right, just past the third 90 degree turn in the road.     (Access to arm of Wade Mountain known as Devil's Racetrack.)

Three Caves Quarry/Monte Sano Preserve Parking Area:   
From Governor's Drive, drive north on California (by Huntsville Hospital East); turn right onto Hermitage Drive.  Continue east to the end of the road, and turn left on Kennamer Drive.  Parking lot is on the right past the swimming pool.  

South Monte Sano Trailhead - access to Trough Springs:   
From Governor's Drive, turn onto Monte Sano Blvd.  Trailhead parking lot is just past Burritt on the Mountain.

Blevins Gap Preserve Parking Area:
From Memorial Parkway go east on Airport Rd.; cross over Whitesburg and continue into Jones Valley. Airport Road turns into Carl T. Jones Drive. Go about 4 miles.
At the Four Mile Post/Cecil B. Ashburn light (Super Target Center is on your right), turn left and go to the top of the mountain towards Hampton Cove. Blevins Gap is at the top (between Huntsville and Green Mountains). Graveled parking area on right is marked by a small Land Trust sign.

Wildflower Trail/Cleermont Parking Area:  From Governor's Drive, drive north on California (by Huntsville Hospital East;  right onto Hermitage Drive.  Continue east 9/10 of a mile and turn left on Cleermont.  Parking lot is on left at the end of Cleermont.       (Access to Wildflower, Fagan Springs, Wagon and Alms House Trails.)

Rainbow Mountain Trailhead:
 
West on Hwy. 72 (University); left onto Hughes Road; left onto Thomas Road (app. 1.2 miles); left onto Concord; right onto Stoneway Trail up mountain; right at T intersection (still on Stoneway Trail) to water tower at the top (app. .6 mile). Parking area at education kiosk.
